The Western understanding of acupuncture is based on principles of neuro-functional anatomy. Acupuncture needles stimulate peripheral nerves to contract muscles, trigger the central nervous system function and boost a cascade of endocannabinoids, enkephalins and opioid-like endorphins. All of which makes us pain-free and feel great. In addition, the insertion of a needle under the skin boosts the immune system and helps to flood the area with blood perfusion.
A few short years after my initial discovery of acupuncture, I decided to study this holistic healing tradition to serve my community better.
I graduated from the prestigious New England School of Acupuncture in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1996. It is the oldest acupuncture school in the country. While attending there, I studied both Japanese and traditional Chinese acupuncture styles. I’ve learned to combine the best from each of these unique styles. Chinese acupuncture requires a stronger and deeper needle stimulus. While the Japanese acupuncture style depends on a more subtle needling style using very shallow needle insertion and much more palpation.
Along the way, I have studied the core principles of whole food nutrition, functional medicine, herbology, and the therapeutic applications of both vitamins and minerals. "Holistic" means to treat the body as a whole, and adding these modalities to my knowledge, skills, and experience as an Acupuncturist helps me to effectively treat my patients health issues and restore them to the path of long-term wellness.
Now with over 23 years of clinical experience and a wealth of natural health knowledge to share, I’ve built this practice with the following core mission:
- Do no harm!
- Always do my best to help resolve my patient’s health issues.
- Educate patients on preventative health care.
- Be professional, caring, and courteous at all time.
- Create a safe and healing environment for the patient.
My emphasis is your comfortability and the resolution of your disorder while you are in under my care. My focus is to improve the health of my patients in a wide variety of illness including, but not limited to: Glaucoma, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, dry eyes, Retinitis Pigmentosa, arthritis, neck pain, back pain, sciatica, insomnia, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) stress management, autoimmune conditions, and Lyme disease.
Most of Western medicine is based upon reductionism. That is the focus of a single part without its relationship to the whole. Being holistic means looking at everyone one with an appreciation that we are complex organisms made up from multiple interconnected and interdependent working systems. I specialize in understanding the human mind-body-spirit connection, and our patients are treated in that manner. I partner with my patients to create an honorable relationship of trust. I will always be transparent and up front to let you know what I can and cannot do.
