The pain that you could feel from sciatica may be best described as a toothache in your low back and leg. It can become intense and cause shooting pains running up and down the leg. Neuro-functional-acupuncture and electro-acupuncture are excellent modalities at reducing pain levels for sciatica. Sometimes within one to two treatments, patients will feel a significant difference. In addition to acupuncture, I will use anti-inflammatory and pain relieving herbs, homeopathics, and exercises to improve the patient’s condition.
Low Back Pain: Over 80 % of adults will experience low back pain at some point in their life. Low back pain may come about for a variety of reasons such as Sciatica, sprains and strains, disc herniation, trauma, spinal stenosis, infections, kidney stones, and more. Most patients with back pain are given pain medication and referred to physical therapy. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then surgery is always an option.
Acupuncture for Low Back Pain: Neuro-functional-acupuncture or electro-acupuncture is an outstanding modality for the low back pain patient. It’s non-invasive, low risk, and it can either manage or resolve most cases. I have successfully treated thousands of patients with low back pain using electro-acupuncture and herbal medicines. Most patients will respond with less pain within one to two sessions. In addition to acupuncture and herbal medicine, I will teach the patient proper stretches to open the back channels and exercises to strengthen the body’s core.
Osteoarthritis: is the inflammation and degradation of any joint in the body. Osteoarthritis often refers to the breakdown of the joint-cartilage, including the swelling, stiffness, and pain that are associated with it. Conventional medicine for osteoarthritis will include pain medications and physical therapy. If the joint (hip or knee) will no longer respond to therapy and cannot regenerate itself, then joint replacement is an option.
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder of the joints where the body’s immune system attacks self-tissue causing joint degradation and pain. Conventional therapies for rheumatoid arthritis include biological drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, and physical therapy. Dealing with autoimmune disorders is a more complicated situation. There may be several causative factors involved, and each one of them needs to be addressed.
Neuro-functional acupuncture will be used to lower the pain and the inflammatory response. The patient will need to be on several herbal medicines to modulate their immune system and a special food plan to eliminate any pro-inflammatory foods. I have successfully treated many patients with both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, using the strategies described above. Most patients respond favorably using acupuncture, herbal medicines, and an appropriate food plan.
